So carrying on from the blog post this is a datascraping thread for 3.0 and it's patches up to 4.0. Please note that i'm trying to link to specific in game info as well as the area of the internet I found it in. These will be out of order but i'll try and at least mention the patch or quest order they're in each time I reply to this thread.
I will make threads for each expansion, as well as the sections on the blog post itself.
ON WITH THE GEEKERY!
Most of this is scraped from the FF Forums - if it's not a post from this site: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/242609-References-in-Heavensward/page9. - Then
Then i'll link beside it. .
The Broom in Matoyas room references the Simpsons twice in one sentence. Join the Navy Episode and Mr Sparkle Episode as well as 'Let's fighting love' and 'Yeah! Win!' (WoW episode) from Southpark. (This would be MSQ)
"It's not a bug, it's a creature" - a reference to the early days of Firefox, when Mozilla tried to pass off the browser's memory leak as something intended.
The Armorer 55 quest have references to the movie Barbarella. <-- Will be copying this to Job Quest
Pico de Gallows - Pico de Gallo (mexican combination of vegetables for tacos and other stuff, and the other definition is chicken peak) took me a while to understand it until i don't know why i read it in spanish.
'm pretty sure this has been said, but too lazy to read all the posts. DRK skill Living Dead, when you reach 0hp it turns into Walking Dead. <-- WILL COPY TO JOB QUEST
Cid pulls a Jean Luc Picard reference from Star Trek TNG when he lifts off in his Enterprise Excelsior and says "Engage!" - Proof that this is NOT A MARVEL COMICS REFERENCE.
This one's a SERIES WIDE Reference: Biggs and Wedge, 2 big Star Wars refernces XD Biggs was Lukes friend from Tattooine, Wedge, well Wedge Antilles.
I found a reference in a Guildleve for Goldsmithing (Level 52). Its called "High Above Me, She Sews Lovely", a reference to "Tal Bachman - She's So High", the lyrics specificlly "She's so high above me, she's so lovely". <-- Copying to Job Quests when i get a chance.
Most of Matoya's cave is a Fantasia and Disney reference, which is a crossover to Kingdom Hearts. Disney and Square Enix have a partnership in that game series. (This is on the forum but I'm aware that Mickey's fantasia outfit is in one of the KH games, and i'm positive you can see half of that movie in that game)
"Dreams of War, Dreams of Liars, Dreams of Dragon Fire" is the name of a Miner leve in The Churning Mists. It's also a line of lyrics from Metallica's Enter Sandman. - DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN... DUN DUN DUN DUN.... DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN *shreds on the guitar* <-- Will copy to Job Quests
I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but the Level 58 Levequest Dance, Magic Dance is a line from the song "Magic Dance" by David Bowie from the film Labyrinth. Its a bit strange since in the film early scripts had Jareth revealed as a goblin using magic to appear human at the end. While the quest has you looking for a witch using magic to be disguised as a goblin.
Rose never lets go - Could be a titanic movie reference Forging Lance Base - Could be a play on a boy band members name The level 50 Weaver Quest is called the Social Knitwork - Could be a play on the social network movie
There are HAYAO MIYAZAKI / Studio Ghibli References.
